What can Santa Ana winds do to an empty home?
Santa Ana wind events in fall and winter can drop debris on a property, knock out power, or leave a gate open. When nobody is home, none of that gets noticed until the owner returns. A visit after a wind event looks at the grounds, the gate and the house, then reports with photos.
Wind is a fall story in North County. It is also the season when many second-home owners are somewhere else.
What do we look at after a wind event?
Start at the gate. On a Rancho Santa Fe or Fairbanks Ranch estate, the gate is the first thing that tells you whether anything shifted. Then the drive and grounds: fallen branches, palm fronds, loose patio furniture, anything resting against the house.
Inside, the question is power. If it went out, the refrigerator and HVAC may have stopped, and clocks and panel indicators can show it. We check that they are running again and note what we find.

Why does it matter on large lots?
Estates here sit on big parcels with mature trees, landscaping and long drives. Debris can pile up where nobody walks. A branch down across a drive or a gate left open is easy to miss from the street and obvious on foot.
Coastal homes carry a second concern. Salt air is already hard on exterior fixtures, door hardware and HVAC condensers, and wind-driven debris adds to it.
What do we do about what we find?
We document and tell you. A dated, photo-documented report goes to the owner. If a tree service or other professional is needed, we can help coordinate one, but only with the owner's approval. We do not hire vendors or authorize work on an owner's behalf. When approved, we meet the vendor on site and visually confirm the work appears done.
Emergency property visits are available when Britt is able. We do not promise a response time.
Home Watch is a visual property observation and reporting service. It is not a substitute for licensed security, contracting, inspection, or emergency services.
Where does this apply?
We serve Rancho Santa Fe, Fairbanks Ranch, Del Mar, Solana Beach, Encinitas, Carlsbad and La Jolla. For estate grounds, start with Fairbanks Ranch or Rancho Santa Fe. For scheduled visits, see home watch visits. To talk about your own property, request a walkthrough.
